Gustav MAHLER: Symphony No.3 in D-minor マーラー交響曲第3番

It was a marvelous concert.

I like Mahler 3rd Symphony very much, but this was my second time appreciating it in live since I listened to it on an opening ceremony concert for Sumida Triphony Hall by Japanese prestigious conductor Seiji Ozawa and NJP Orchestra (many and many years ago).

Because the 3rd Symphony, which has about 100 minutes long, needs a huge orchestra, many percussionist, mezzo soprano female Chorus and children Chorus. It was completely right for celebrating inauguration of Kahchun WONG as Chief Conductor of Japan Philharmonic Orchestra.

Starting from a magnificent theme by tutti horn (it was awesome), the orchestra played beautiful and impressive melodies and developed amazing harmony with the instrumental solos. Especially Yuta Ito’s trombone and Ottaviano Cristofoli’s post-horn were incredibly fantastic.

When it comes to the conducting of Maestro Kahchun, he highlighted every key point and made me (most likely most of the audience) feel more comprehensible and enjoyable. I felt the 100 minutes long the symphony went by surprisingly fast!

I went to the concert two days in a row. It was an absolutely memorable concert and will make me remember it forever. I am looking forward to all of Maestro Kahchun and JPO’s continued successes.
